Does it really? You betcha! You get what you give ring any bells. A simplified cliché yet holds a lot of merit. Whether it be moral obligations, repairing a relationship, maintaining a good mental and physical state, (for me, sober and cancer free quickly come to mind) or simply feeling good in this very moment. Each action, no matter how small matters. The relevance and impact this had on me in early sobriety was key to preventing relapse as well as integral in helping me to see that responsibility was woven into the outcome of each hour, day, and week of my life.
One act of self-care, or that one good choice can trigger a trajectory of good and wonderful things. Now I know, sometimes our minds tell us that we can get away from some of our actions. And thinking not every little thing has impact…….BUT It is still in our favor to believe that it does. Take Karma for example. If we believe in the universal causal law by which good or bad actions determines what come back at us or if we intellectualize it as if it were
feedback loops that were controlled by each action or choice we make. My point here is that nobody is exempt and each action matters on many levels.
Positive act, positive feedback loop, good karmic outcome.
Negative act, negative feedback loop, not so good karmic outcome.
Now we know that this halo living is not easy, but if we try to do good, make positive choices and most often do the right thing, CUMULATIVELY it adds up. This is so true of mental health and with self-care. Each self-care act is a deposit to wellness. Each act elevates our mood. Leads to the next. So every action does matter on all fronts. So, let’s begin with elevating our baseline moods with one extra action for self-care and good each morning and see how we fair.
And what matters most and carries a lot of importance here and is a whole other conversation, is that YOU MATTER…. you deserve to be well and LIveWell. Take good care.
